If you are in the process of designing a business model to be competitive in the marketplace, there are quite a few things you need to know about what’s going on.  

Surveying the Online Landscape

Certainly you should be able to survey the landscape if competitive offerings, know who is out there, what business they are in and what approach to the customers they are are using.  You should be able to craft a business plan for yourself that allows you to develop a competitive advantage, or at least a marketing advantage to be able to attract and retain customers within that marketplace.

In the context of leadership, market awareness really comes down to,; do you really know what you need to be paying attention to in order to get your team to reach its goals? A Great Boss will constantly assess the mood of the team and analyze the impact of his or her actions.

Are Your Actions Helping the Team Get Closer to its Goals?

A Great Boss will constantly assess the mood of the team analyze his or her actions.  Are your actions helping  the team get closer to it’s goals or are you preventing the team from preventing it’s goals?  This is not a matter of intent; it is a matter it is frequently unintentional.

Sometimes your frustration, your personal biases or stress manifested in your actions.  When you take an action that is detrimental to the team, you need to own up to that and reverse the consequences of that action. That’s part of being a Great Boss. BossHoles rarely admit they have made a mistake.
